Courtille French Antique Cup Saucer Bird Decoration 18thc Porcelain Vieux Paris
Birds are a popular subject for porcelain decoration-along with flowers-because they allow the painter to show off, using a lot of colors. This colorful set was made in the late 18th century, probably by La Courtille or by another one of the many porcelain factories in or around Paris. Note that the birds are leaning forward to munch on a tiny doomed flying insect! The can has a black speck on the outside that appeared during the firing.
