A rare snuff / patch / pill box made by Mennecy in the 18th century. It is made of softpaste porcelain and thus has a creamy warm white color.
The box is left in the white but has a superb relief design all around that is meant to look like a basket with a flower in the center on the lid and on the bottom. The mounts are sterling silver - which is marked though it is tiny and I cannot make it out! The porcelain is not marked which is quite common but it is definitely by them. The piece is in superb condition with the silver mounts having a repaired area on the inside back and some missing pieces. It still opens and closes so that is OK.
Would be an easy fix for a silver smith if need be and cheap but I will leave it as is! The piece is 1.125 inches tall, 2.5 inches wide and 1.375 inches deep. If you like my goodies have a look at my other auctions for a lot more top maker pieces like Chantilly, Sevres and so on.
