A pot de creme or pot au jus made by Mennecy in the 18th century. This type of cup was used for hot chocolate or meat juices (like a strong broth) to drink.
It is made of softpaste porcelain. The main body and lid are hand painted with polychrome flowers, a puce trim and the lid has a little fruit finial with the stem and leaf. The enamel colors of the flowers are amazing and it makes soft paste so much nicer than hard paste porcelain. The piece is marked underneath with the incised D.The cup and lid are 3.5 inches tall and 2.5 inches in diameter. The main body is in perfect condition but the lid has a small chip to the edge and the stem of the finial is missing a piece.
The lid is a bit loose but that's not unusual.
