Antique 18thC French Soft Paste Porcelain Scenic Dish Under Plate France Scene. This product data sheet is originally written in English. A really nice dish made of softpaste porcelain in France in the 18th century. Not sure who made it - I bought it from a dealer who attributed it to Sceaux but I don't think that's right. The dish has a typical shape for this period and country and could be and underplate for a sauce dish or sugar dish or even oil and vinegar.
The rim has a little design to the paste and some gold trim which is pretty worn. The center has some flower arrangements as well as smaller single flower but the best part are those two hand painted scenes to the sides of the dish. Superbly done they include people doing everyday things like fishing with water, people and buildings in a landscape surrounding. The scenes are surrounded by a gold trim. The plate is in great condition with the already mentioned wear to the gilding and a bit of wear to the flowers and scenes.
It displays very well and is definitely a nice addition to any collection. The bottom of the underplate is not marked at all. It has a straw colored translucency as shown - what looks to be a firing flaw right in that picture is just tape residue which I cleaned off. The piece measures 1.625 inches tall, 9.875 inches wide and 6.25 inches deep.
