Antique 18thC French Biscuit Lady Porcelain Figurine Porcelaine Figure France    Antique 18thC French Biscuit Lady Porcelain Figurine Porcelaine Figure France

A figurine made in France in the late 18th or early 19th century. French for sure but no idea which maker. The figure is of a lady holding a flower garland likely to represent Spring with a cloth draped around her mid section while leaning on a tree stump. The piece is made of unglazed or biscuit porcelain meant to imitate marble which it really does very well. The figurine is well modeled and since there is no glaze to obscure the detail it is finer than on glazed porcelain.

The piece is not marked underneath which makes it hard to determine the exact maker but it is definitely French from this time period. The figurine is in good condition but the two garland ends used to be connected so that center piece is missing and possibly another small section going down. There is the normal damage to the flowers and leaves but not bad and a chip to the base by her feet. A firing crack in the back of her neck normal to these early pieces. She displays nicely and all in all is in good condition.

The figure is 6.5 inches tall, 3 inches wide and 2.25 inches deep. If you like my goodies have a look at my other auctions for a lot more top maker pieces like Chantilly, Sevres and so on.
